The Blog Writing Formula

Your blog post isn't simply an article to take up space on a website - it's a valuable source of information that should offer advice and recommendations while making sure that any possible questions are answered.

Blogs posted on our client websites have a few specific functions:

  1. Create value
  2. Create leads
  3. Entertain

Value is essential in your blog post. The reader should not be left with questions or feel the need to look elsewhere for information on the topic you have written about.

Writing acceptable blog posts comes with a list of standards that must be followed, but I would like to reiterate one of our most important conditions:

ORIGINAL CONTENT ONLY

This means that we will not accept content that has been copied, in whole or in part, from another source. Plagiarism is a serious offence that can have severe legal repercussions for us and for the client we have deployed your blog posts to.

Formula for Creating Blog Posts

There should be a wide range of topics, so spread your blogs out fairly evenly among our 12 categories:

  • Accommodations
  • Local Events
  • River or Ocean Cruises

Step 1:Identify

Identify a:

Step 2: Empathize

1. Have you ever forgotten to bring your toothbrush on vacation?

Images/Videos

  • Blogs should be highly visual.

  • Include photos and/or videos that are relevant to the subject.

  • Make sure all images used are Creative Commons and a minimum of 600px wide. Use the Creative Commons search engine.

  • "Attach" videos and images, don't embed them into the body of the post.

Body

This is where you can get into details about your topic.
Use, where applicable:

  • Bulleted Lists

  • Numbered Lists

  • Testimonials

The body of your blog should contain interesting, important, and specific information about the subject you have chosen.

The reader should not be left with questions.

Ensure that your posts are keyword rich.

Conclusion

Your conclusion will wrap up the post by repeating the importance of your subject.
Now that you have a comprehensive list of hotels that offer complimentary toothbrushes, you can book one for your next trip, worry free.

Tags

Use tags that are common sense. You want to use words that the average person would use when searching online for the subject you've
written about.

There is no need to add city names or countries to the tags section - the Location field takes care of this.

Your tags should not be the same as your category (don't use "dining" as a tag if your category is "Dining")

Example: travel,beach,surfing

Note:

Leisure blogs must also be tagged with the hashtag #leisure

Corporate blogs must also be tagged with the hashtag #corporate

Example of a well-written blog post:

Take a Tour of the Alexander Keith's Brewery in Nova Scotia

[IDENTIFY] Alexander Keith's has been a proud and noble part of Nova Scotia's heritage since the brewery first opened it's doors in 1820. [EMPATHIZE] Many of us have been fortunate enough to discover the hints of black licorice in a Keith's pale ale, the spice of a red amber, or the warm tones of cinnamon in a smooth premium white, but the real magic happens behind the granite and ironstone walls of one of Canada's oldest breweries. [SOLVE] Now you can experience the production of this Canadian liquid gold with a tour of the Alexander Keith's brewery in Halifax.

[ENTERTAIN] This is no typical tour ... in fact, it's a journey into the past as tour guides decked out in period costumes (and in perfect character) take you through the brewery to teach you the history behind one of the country's most popular ales. Enjoy stories and songs as you trace the steps of the Alexander Keith and the life he led as a brewer, and as a citizen of the early 19th century. For example, one little-known fact is that Alexander Keith served on the Legislative Council of Nova Scotia for 33 years, after his appointment by Queen Victoria ... a prominent post for a simple brewer! Of course, you'll learn about the process of making beer, as well, but don't expect to be given the secret to this long-standing recipe.

[CREATE VALUE]

The tour lasts about one hour and is open to all age groups, but proof of legal age (19 in Nova Scotia) is required to receive samples.

Practical Information:

The Brewery Market, 1496 Lower Water Street,

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
