Writing titles

You must rewrite the titles for each item you curate.

Requirements
You must always mention the name of the destination in the title.

Maximum length
Since this is a mobile application, you have up to 250 characters. Instead of the normal 65 to 70 characters of a standard content post. This is almost the length of 2 full length tweets.

Minimum length
Err on the side of a longer title that fully explains the URL that the mobile user will tap on.

Title Formula
A title will have two parts. The first part is a shorter headline. Around 65 characters or so, that explains what the link is about. The second part takes segments from the article itself or goes into more detail.

Part #1 Formula

  • 2 or 3 word phrase + Subject + Result
  • 2 to 5 word phrase = "10 waterfalls to see"
  • Subject = "Koh Samui, Thailand"
  • Result = "In one day"
  • Full Example: "10 waterfalls to see in Koh Samul Thailand in One Day"
  • Another example: "How to ride around Koh Samui Thailand in 8 hours on a scooter"

Part #2 Formula

  • This part of the headline further describes the salient points in the article. Each description is separated by semi-colons. Assume that the first part of the headline was "10 waterfalls to see in Koh Samui Thailand in One Day" then part 2 of the headline would be:
  • Section1: Swimming under the fall.
  • Section 2: You can go on an elephant in the water.
  • Section 3: The best falls.

Completed Example Title
"10 waterfalls to see in Koh Samui Thailand in One Day; swimming under the fall; you can go on an elephant in the water; the best falls."
